COMBAT aims to promote martial arts as a tool for combating obesity in the EU. By engaging individuals in physical activity, martial arts can help to improve overall physical health and reduce the risk of chronic diseases. Moreover, martial arts training can also provide mental health benefits such as stress reduction and improved self- esteem.

Background

Obesity is a major public health concern worldwide, affecting both developed and developing countries. In recent years, the prevalence of obesity has been increasing at an alarming rate, with the World Health Organization (WHO) reporting that worldwide obesity has tripled since 1975. In 2016, more than 1.9 billion adults were overweight, and of these, over 650 Mobility Tool webgate.ec.europa were obese. According to the European Commission, w 2019, more than half of the EU adult population is either overweight or obese.

Good Practice Guide

The COMBAT project successfully demonstrated how martial arts can be a powerful tool to combat obesity and promote physical and mental health. By incorporating these good practices, other organizations can implement similar initiatives to improve the well-being of their communities.
